Leveling the floor with plywood: how to do it yourself correctly?

Mcooker: best recipes About home and comfort

Leveling the floor with plywoodAn uneven floor in a newly built house is a circumstance imperceptible at first glance. But over time, during the operation of the building, all sorts of troubles begin to arise because of it.

Soups are poured in the kitchen, the TV is crooked in the living room, and a chair is constantly moving in the office. An uneven floor is thus a lot of inconvenience.

To rid yourself of all these problems, the floor must be leveled. To do this, you can use such a durable and budget option like plywood.

Leveling the floor with a lag

The term “logs” usually refers to the frame elements to which the floor covering is attached. To eliminate the slope of the floor, logs of different heights are installed. On the side of the room where there is a large wall in height, higher logs are installed, and vice versa. An edged board is usually used to create a frame from a log, although thick birch FC plywood can also be used with a limited budget.

The choice in favor of FC plywood is explained by the fact that the binders contained in it are non-toxic. Since pieces of plywood with a size of 750x750 mm, cut from sheets of 3000x1500 mm, will be used for work, the size of the free space between the logs should be approximately 550 mm. In this case, 100 mm will fall on each log when laying plywood.

As for the thickness of plywood sheets, it should be at least 9 mm. This parameter depends on the thickness of the floor covering installed in the room. In other words, the thickness of the plywood must be such that it can withstand the stress placed on it without taking up a lot of free space.

Leveling the floor with plywoodIt is best to use softwood sheets, which are especially soft to avoid squeaks.

On the logs, plywood is fixed using self-tapping screws. The length of the fastener is determined by the thickness of the coating plus 20–30 mm of the depth of screwing it into the logs.

Leveling the floor without logs

It may seem to many that this option for leveling the floor is much more economical than the previous one. But this is a controversial issue, since no matter what thickness plywood is used, it will not be able to properly level the floor without a concrete screed.

If you try to level the floor with only one plywood, then it will simply adjust to the relief of the existing flooring. As a result, no changes in the floor slope will occur. That is why there is no way to do without a concrete screed.

Plywood must be treated with an antiseptic, and its laying is performed only when the concrete is completely dry. Plywood sheets, similar to the previous method, are cut into squares of equal size, after which they are fixed on the concrete surface using self-tapping screws.
