Seed treatment before sowing

Mcooker: best recipes About garden and vegetable garden

Seed treatment before sowingYou can accelerate the emergence of seedlings by soaking the seeds in water, or even better in solutions of trace elements, which can be purchased at the pharmacy.

So, the seeds of gingerbread plants are soaked in a 0.05% solution of potassium permanganate or copper sulfate, cucumber - in a 0.1% solution of zinc sulfate, tomato - in a 0.1% solution of ammonium molybdate or in 1% - a nominal solution of potassium permanganate, pepper - in a 0.05% solution of boric acid, eggplant - in a 1% solution of baking soda.

It is better to use settled water for seed treatment, and soft (boiled, snow) water for preparing a solution of microelements. In hard water, trace elements can precipitate and have no effect. For processing with microelements, the seeds are immersed in a warm (20-25 ° C) solution for 8-12 hours, then the solution is drained, and the seeds are scattered in a thin layer, dried to a state of flowability and sown.

Degassed or "magnetized" water is also used. For degassing, the water is brought to a boil and quickly cooled, resulting in the so-called living water. For "magnetization" use special magnetic attachments or attachments.

Instead of microelements or together with them, growth stimulants are used, soaking seeds in their aqueous solutions. One can name such growth stimulants as heteroauxin, gibberellin, gibbersib, ivine, succinic acid, sodium humate. Domestic chemists have synthesized a number of interesting growth stimulants, however, unlike the listed drugs, they have not yet been included in the list of approved drugs and are not produced in industrial batches.

A good effect is provided by bubbling seeds for 12-15 hours. The seeds are poured with water or a solution and an aquarium aerator supplying oxygen is placed in a vessel with them. Seeds flooded with water, during germination, lack oxygen in the air. When bubbling, this deficiency is compensated and the seeds germinate faster. When soaking seeds without bubbling, one should strive to ensure that the seeds are not completely immersed in water or solution, but only moistened.

Seed treatment before sowingSluggish seeds, especially spicy-tasting vegetables, are sometimes grown and sown with small sprouts. To do this, they are moistened with water or a solution, sprinkled on a damp cloth in a wide and shallow dish, covered with a damp cloth on top and left in a warm place until the first shoots appear.

You can grow seeds in wet sawdust, old and well ventilated. They also grow seeds of other plants that are not stunted, for example, tomato seeds, cucumber, melons. This speeds up the development of plants.

To increase cold resistance, seeds are hardened. To do this, the soaked seeds are placed in the refrigerator overnight, and for the day they are removed and kept in a warm room, sprinkling them in a thin layer, preventing them from drying out. This process takes place within 2-3 days until the seeds hatch, after which they are sown. Such seeds germinate at lower temperatures and are less damaged by frost.

It must be borne in mind that all soaked seeds should be sown only in moist soil. Sowing in dry soil can kill germinated or wet seeds. Only dry seeds can be sown in dry soil.

To accelerate the emergence of seedlings and increase the yield of vegetables, various methods of physical influence on seeds are also used: laser irradiation, electrical stimulation, ultrasonic treatment, etc. For such processing, special equipment is required.
