 The arrangement of an apartment is an art, especially in our modern conditions, the art of rational use of a small area for such everyday human needs as sleep, food, cooking, work, rest, raising children, communicating with friends.
Each of these needs must be met in our modern apartment, consisting of one, two, three rooms and a small kitchen.
What should be our apartment? Let's talk about this in more detail.
First of all, we have to think about the color of the walls, and it turns out that on this score we have a wide variety of opinions and questions: how can we make rooms that are poorly illuminated by the sun brighter by painting the walls? Is it good to use coasting? Those who think about it do the right thing, because our home is a part of our “I”, it shows the degree of our culture, aesthetic development.
Wall painting plays an important role in interior decoration (interieur). It is necessary to take into account the undeniable rule: the walls should be painted evenly, in a fairly light tone.
The most suitable tones, especially for darkish rooms, are cream, pearl gray, gray-blue, salad and all shades of yellow. These colors are also good because they are in harmony with any color of furniture and curtains. When painting walls in high rooms, the white stripe under the ceiling should be wider than in low rooms. There should not be any stripes or borders separating the color from the white stripe: this disfigures the walls, gives an unpleasant impression of bureaucracy. No rolls can compete with the sleek coloration: they produce a miserable impression of "squalid luxury" and are already out of fashion.
However, you should not expel bright, cheerful spots from your rooms so that you do not get the impression of boring monotony and grayness.
 Motley colored curtains and curtains, bright pillows on the sofa, colorful reproductions on the walls - all this is good, but they must be given in small quantities and very carefully so that it does not turn out loudly and pretentiously. The main thing is that all tones and colors are chosen with taste, that is, according to the laws of aesthetics.
Well, how to plan the furniture arrangement?
In our still difficult conditions, at best, we have an apartment of two rooms and a kitchen, how to accommodate here, where and how to arrange furniture and what kind of furniture?
And here we are often dominated by old traditions: there should be a "front" room, as they used to say, a "room" where the "front" furniture stood and received guests, and a bedroom where all the other household items, starting with the bed and ending with wash items and old shoes. We also have one more prejudice left over from the bourgeois life: the desire to create the appearance of a "matrimonial bedroom" - two beds put together and "nicely" cleaned up and a toilet. A baby cot is also placed here. There is no need to prove that these attempts at a "decent" apartment lead to an inhuman life - not a dwelling for a person, but a man for a dwelling: our needs are adjusted to a "decent" dwelling, and not a dwelling is arranged for the convenience of our everyday life.
How to be? First of all, prejudice must be eliminated. Let's start with the beds. They are not needed at all. Instead of them for adults - an ottoman with a box for the bed, sofa, couch, sofa bed with a pull-out second bed. The latter completely replaces two "matrimonial" beds with significant savings in space, as well as time for cleaning "beautiful" beds: after airing, all bed linen is rolled up and put inside the sofa, and if it is an ottoman, then you can put the linen in long pillowcases specially sewn from the same as the upholstery of the sofa, or other suitable material,and leave on the sides of the ottoman like bolsters. If there should be two ottomans in the room, then it is better to put them in the back of the room at an angle - this will save space and create coziness. Between them it is good to put a light portable table with a shelf at the bottom for newspapers and magazines, on it there is a small vase with 2-3 flowers (it is not good to put large bouquets: several flowers in a vase look much more elegant). Above the sofa in the corner is a sconce lamp: the light is easy to read and less harmful to the eyes.
One should also part with the toilet, which is not such a beautiful thing, in addition, which is already out of fashion. Instead, it is better to put a small desk with a table lamp by the window. A schoolchild can also prepare lessons here. And the toilet can be successfully replaced with a light glass shelf on brackets and a mirror in the bathroom. There is a place in the room for a small bookcase, and for an armchair, and for a children's corner, which will be discussed later. Thus, the room, although it will not look like a traditional matrimonial bedroom, will be more spacious and comfortable as a bedroom and a "quiet corner" where you can relax, retire for study and where the child can go to bed on time, isolated from the everyday life of adults; such a room is comfortable and easy to clean.
 If you have only one room, then, of course, you will have to put a combined wardrobe here for clothes, linen, dishes and other small things, and also occupy the middle of the room with a small dining table and chairs. If there is a second room, then it should not be done only as a living room, first of all think about the comforts of a family's life. There should also be at least two sofas here. A dining table with chairs and a combination wardrobe will then already be in this second room. It is good to put one of the sofas in the back of the room and separate it from the rest of the room with a high shelf with a secretary and a lower drawer; place a table with a table lamp and an armchair next to it. It will be a resting corner, somewhat isolated and convenient in the case when it is necessary to put the patient to bed. The second sofa will be located closer to the front door, and right there is an armchair - this is a cozy corner, lit by a floor lamp, for receiving guests. Hanging lamp or chandelier above the dining table.
However, it's time to think about children. The child needs a children's corner. Sometimes the corner does not require a large area, it's just your own crib, and next to it is a cabinet with toys, hung just above the floor, a small table and a chair. In the best case, we recommend a table with a music stand for drawing or writing, with a revolving board, and upside down it can be used to play "car", "plane", "tram".
The older the child, the more he adapts to the life of adults. He will sleep in the second room on a "quiet sofa". to use a desk and a bookcase, where he has his own shelf, to receive comrades in a “living room” corner, but he has his own “children's corner”, although without a crib and toys. There can only be his table and chair, a shelf or a cabinet, a geographical map and his drawings will be hanging right there.
All this reasoning, advice and guidance, of course, can raise objections on individual details.
