Learn English on your ownEnglish, like any other, can be learned in many different ways.

You can attend courses, you can go to club meetings in the target language, you can communicate on Skype with native speakers and with friends, you can overlap with textbooks and cram dictionaries and grammar, or you can just go to the country of the target language. And this is not a complete list of how you can learn English.

Of course, there are a lot of ways, but is it possible to learn English on your own, and so that it is not particularly burdensome?

Can you learn English on your own?

It is possible on its own, but in order not to be burdensome, it is unlikely. If you want to know the language, but don't bother yourself with studying it, then it's better not to start.

Better do something else.

Well, for those who still want to master English at a good level in order not only to read, but also to understand, and possibly speak it, one of the most effective methods can be advised.

The method itself is very simple. It can be briefly called an auditory method of learning English. It consists in the following.

You need situational dialogues in English (at least 30 dialogues). Dialogues are needed precisely by well-read native speakers.

No Russian speaking or other announcers. Dialogue speed should be natural. No slowed down dialogues.

Choosing a dialogue. We listen to it in a circle until we hear every sound and every word.

Of course, at first, you probably won't be able to hear every word. It is even possible that the dialogue will seem to you a continuous set of sounds. But as you continue to listen, you gradually begin to distinguish between words and sounds that just seemed to you like continuous gibberish. You just listen without understanding the meaning until you start to hear every single word of the dialogue.

For the first 3-4 dialogs, it can take up to 3-4 weeks for each dialog. The main thing is not to deceive yourself, and not to try to convince what you seem to hear.

Learn English on your ownWhen you hear each word accurately, then move on to the next step. We take the text of this dialogue and continue listening with our eyes looking at the text. Again, the announcer may "run away" from you at first. But gradually you will get used to the normal speaker speed. This means it's time to move on to the final stage. To pronunciation.

You take the text and loudly begin to pronounce the text of the dialogue, starting from the end of the sentence, syllable by syllable. For example:

My brother lives in New York.

At first york, then new yorkthen in new york etc.

The main thing is to constantly check with the audio dialogue and try to speak as close as possible to the way the speaker speaks.

Of course, you are unlikely to be able to achieve 100% similarity, but at least try to speak as similarly as possible, observing all intonations and expressions in the speech of the carrier. Only then will your speech be really well delivered English.

At the stage of pronunciation, we get used to pronouncing the sounds of a foreign language for us, because most of these sounds are simply not in Russian.

And secondly, we are constantly pronouncing, as it were, bringing the dialogue and its meaning into our brain. Thus, we sort of get along with the dialogue, and then, hearing the words and phrases of the dialogue, we no longer need to translate it into Russian, we just understand what is being said by hearing English.

When such an understanding is reached, and you can read the dialogue freely, then you can proceed to the next dialogue. In the first dialogues, the main thing is not to rush. Take your time. Otherwise, your pronunciation will give you away. Well, when you have finished 30-40 dialogues, then you can already move on to free reading in English.

By that time, you will already have a vocabulary of 500-800 words, and this is already enough not to get lost in a foreign English-speaking country.

And the last thing. This method involves daily sessions of 1-2 hours. If you cannot allocate as much, then progress will go much slower. Although, of course, you yourself plan when and how much time you spend on learning English.

This is the beauty of this method. No boring cramming. You plan your time yourself. You study those topics that interest you. And most importantly, with this method you can learn English on your own in 1 year.

And indeed it is.
