How to get rid of food moths

Mcooker: best recipes About home and comfort

A cereal (it is also a kitchen, grocery, grain, food) moth is larger than a clothes moth and differs in a different color - it is gray-brown. You can get rid of it by spraying special aerosol agents to combat flying insects, but not every housewife dares to use chemistry in the kitchen, especially when a small child lives in the house. It remains to hope for time-tested folk remedies.

Step one.

Check all of your supplies for insects, not just cereals. Food moths can be found in tea boxes, spices, bags of dried fruits, breadcrumbs, nuts, and even ground coffee and sugar. The signs of her vital activity can be judged, first of all, by the presence of larvae. Throw away all moth-contaminated foods immediately. It makes no sense to sort, sift or heat them - they are already infected.

Step two.

Empty all storage cupboards completely. Wash them thoroughly using detergents, let dry well, and then thoroughly treat with table vinegar. Pay particular attention to the processing of hard-to-reach places - grooves, sides of drawers, etc. After airing the cabinets for 3 - 4 hours, the products can again be placed in them.

Step three.

Try to vacuum, or rather wipe with table vinegar, the joints between the walls and the ceiling, as well as the walls behind the cabinets, since the moth prefers to lay its larvae in such nooks.

Step four.

Take preventive measures against moths. The smell of garlic repels moths. Peel a few cloves of garlic, cut them into 3 to 4 wedges and place them in the food cabinets. To enhance the effect, in addition to unfolding the slices, you can rub the walls and shelves of cabinets with garlic. As the garlic dries, it needs to be renewed. You can also place saucers with vegetable oil poured into them in cupboards, they will act as traps for moths. Once in the oil, the moth cannot get out of it and dies.

Step five.

Make it a rule to regularly process food cupboards with table vinegar. This should be done at least three times a month. During processing, the most favorite moth products - semolina, rolled oats, buckwheat and corn grits can be temporarily stored in the refrigerator. It is important not to overload cabinets with food supplies and try to follow the storage rules.

How to reliably ensure food safety (general rules).

Usually people bring cereal insects into the house in purchased products. You should choose only high-quality cereals - without litter and traces of high humidity or caking. If traces of insects are suddenly found, the product must be thrown away, having previously sealed it. It is recommended to store cereals in tight-fitting glass or plastic jars. Food storage cabinets should be washed, ventilated and dried more often. At high air humidity, mold fungi can develop in cereals, releasing hazardous products of their vital activity (mycotoxins). It is necessary to regularly revise the condition of bulk products and observe their shelf life.
