Feijoy jam

Feijoy jam

Ingredients

Feijoa I have 4 kg.
Sugar 3 kg.

Cooking method

  • My feijoa, cut off the "tails" and pass it through a meat grinder (I like it less in a blender because it turns out puree, and there it is with grains) add sugar - generally make 1 to 1, but I added 3 tons of sugar instead of 4 kg. wanted too sweet. Store in the refrigerator. If you plan to store for a long time, then sterilize the jars and pour sugar on top before closing the lid.

What do you say to this (quote HERE):

For many years of eating this fruit, it has been noticed that after scrolling through a meat grinder, it oxidizes and sour faster than after a blender. And only the taste will remain in the jam without beneficial ingredients

It's a pity if it turns sour ...

Cook
we eat it quickly)

PPKS !!! I love it myself, I can't !!! I tried to add walnuts, no, not mine (I honestly don’t love nuts at all), but I really liked the additive in the form of a lemon, the main thing is not to overdo it with the latter, I’m 1 kg. Feijoa I take 600-800 gr. sugar and one medium lemon, well, that's me ... what if it comes in handy ...

Hello. I read this recipe and did not understand, do not cook? Just stir everything and refrigerate?

Yes, this jam does not require cooking. Mix well until sugar dissolves. We put it in jars and keep it cool

No need to cook. I did. Delicious. It is stored normally, does not acidify, I, however, grind it with knives in a combine, immediately with sugar.
Lemon sugar # 157
The amount of sugar is at your discretion.

Every year I harvest feijoa like that, I never cook it.
First I grind it in a food processor, then in a jar I beat it with honey with a blender. Stands until spring. In the morning, we will be fortified with 2 tbsp. spoons.
Feijoa has prepared 12 kg today.

Mom's sister always bought feijoa, twisted it in a meat grinder and mixed 1: 2. It smelled like strawberries, it was tasty and healthy. I have never seen a feijoa here.

Marina, can you give me more details? How much of what?
susika
I grind it with a chopper, into small boxes (140-200ml) and freeze. This is possible until spring. True, so much does not work out - they are expensive with us. And very rarely on sale. You need to catch the moment
NataliaVoronezh
Laris, do you add sugar? It's just that I have never done feijoa.

Laris, do you add sugar? I just never did feijoa.
Natasha, not right away. When I take out, I mix in a little honey. Oo this is so delicious. In St. Petersburg I took either 100 or 200 p kg, we get 450, and then literally a week on sale. Freeze-vitamins are preserved and there is no risk of souring.Well, small portions, when they wanted to, they ate. The only thing is that the boxes must be airtight, otherwise a foreign smell will penetrate.

NataliaVoronezh, I apply feijoa to half the volume of the jar, and then add honey and beat with a blender leg. Stored until spring. If there is no honey, then add sugar to taste. I don't cook feijoa right after purchase, I keep it until soft. It ripens, the aroma is different and it becomes sweeter.

We make cranberry feijoa + honey to taste. Blender, add honey, pour it into small molds (eat at a time) and send it to the freezer. It is stored perfectly, after defrosting the taste does not lose. The husband eats just like that and adds vitamins to cereals all year round.

Yesterday I made this "feijoy jam" too.
I went to the bazaar, and this year we brought feijoa from Georgia, and the price has dropped dramatically (in comparison with the past years).
I could not resist and bought 2 kg at 65 UAH. The Georgian saleswoman did as I was told. She said that do not grind through a meat grinder, it is better with a blender. No honey, sugar is better. Sugar - if kept in the refrigerator then 1: 1. If outside the refrigerator, then 1 kg of feijoa and 1.2 sugar, this is the only way it will stand. Act quickly, without delaying the process, so that the crushed mass is less in the air without sugar. You can also, so as not to darken, grind 1 lemon per 1 kg of feijoa.
I chopped it in a Brown bowl with knives, but I didn't like the mass, the pieces still remained. Therefore, the whole mass was then quickly kicked from Brown. I poured sugar 1: 1, but then I sealed the jars with 2 tsp of sugar on top. She didn't add the lemon. While I put it in the old hololilnik, then (when we turn it off for the winter, I will transfer it to the gazebo or to the basement).
It turned out exactly 7 jars of 0.5 liters. The color in the photo does not match. I got a bright green

Feijoy jam
Now I read about Natasha Chuchelka's "five-minute" and I think - maybe it was still better to boil it? I've never done this before, I don't know how it will stand. And yet this amount of sugar is scary

For the second year I make raw jam, a little sugar, to taste. I keep it in the freezer, and it's not too sweet and keeps well. I haven't tried compote from it, I have to cook it while it is being sold.

Nadyushich, Nadia, for me a freeze feijoa is not a varant. Just about this, the reason, I wrote in BW
Nadyushich
Nelya, I read that this option does not work for you. And I like blended berries with a minimum of sugar in the freezer. And your apricot jam is also a bit sweet.
NataliaVoronezh
I also bought 2 kg of feijoa yesterday. Only the saleswoman (she is also of Caucasian blood) told me that to scroll through a meat grinder, add 1 lemon per 1 kg of berries and 500 g of honey, sugar is not in any way. Everyone has different opinions.
