And what kind of bulgur does it resemble, not barley by chance?
Melisa72ru
Elena, this cereal does not at all resemble barley .. Bulgur is called Mediterranean rice ...
"Bulgur is wheat. Steamed, partially peeled and crushed into small fractions. After steaming, the wheat grains are dried in the sun, after which they are husked and crushed. It is steaming with drying that gives a unique taste and aroma to the future dish with bulgur. And that's all - then you need a little butter and a well-heated wok, cauldron or frying pan in order for the bulgur to begin to exude a wonderful nutty aroma, to which, if properly prepared, gourmets "add up" like a drug.
Bulgur contains a lot of fiber, a lot of potassium and iron, which strengthens the heart muscles and blood vessels.
The carbohydrates in bulgur are complex, that is, they are absorbed more slowly and do not harm the figure. Calorie content of 360 kcal perfectly saturates, and after a dish with bulgur, you don't feel like eating for a very long time.
Bulgur can be a side dish, replace rice in any dishes, it is combined with meat (chicken, lamb) and fish (sea), serves as a filling when stuffing vegetables, can be added to salads. Turkish pilav (analogue of pilaf) is prepared with bulgur, and wedding pilaf is prepared from bulgur in Cyprus and Greece. Bulgur is added to soups and stews, the taste of which takes on an oriental flavor ... "

I discovered this cereal for myself, I will be happy to use it in cooking ...

Zhenya, thank you for the recipe and information on this useful product!
Everyone's going to start eating bulgur. chickpeas, but there are no other people besides me ...

I can answer as an expert on this product ... in Arabic it sounds like Burgul, so I will call it that, if you please ... Bulgur is a Turkish name ...
Burgul is mainly from wheat of red varieties, there is also a white one, but less used, only for cereals ...
Wheat is sorted out, boiled and dried under the sun ... then it is crushed on a hop grinder, but that would be a crumb ... then it is ventilated from the husk and dried in the sun once more ..
Burgul is added to cereals, soups, salads, meat and vegetable products ... for salads and meat, they are soaked in cold water for no more than 10 minutes, or even less ...
the famous Lebanese salad TABULE, made from fresh meat KEBBE (fresh meat with herbs and burgundy) and ROS KEBBE

(the bottom plate with fried ros kebbe is elongated and round on the right, they are usually very spicy)

Catherine, thanks for the clarification, maybe. will you tell me what recipes?

while I was writing to Melisa72ru I managed to answer, but I didn’t see it, I repeated it ...
I don't really like Burgul and use very little, it's my mother-in-law who does all this ... from planting to the final result ... interesting but complicated process ... in Lebanon it is more like we love buckwheat ...
the simplest thing is, as the mother-in-law "Burgul with lentils!" in olive oil until golden or brown (for an amateur ... everything is too overcooked here) and added to lentils ...
Rinse burgul, drain the floating particles and add to the lentils. cook for 5 minutes and at the same time mix everything well .. the main thing is not to overcook the burgundy .. it must remain whole but soft (it is still getting cold) ..
they are immediately laid out on plates and allowed to cool ... it is mainly eaten cold. served with "khyor u laben" (cucumbers with kefir or sour cream) .. well, there as you like

Melisa72ru
katerix Katya, thank you ...

I liked the bulgur-which I bought-pr-va Fair, clean and no need to rinse ...
I will do something else with him

Melisa72, I had suspicions, and my husband has now confirmed that it is not a Burgul and not even a white one ... this is a real barley, only crushed ...
Burgul has a different look ... that's why there is no husk ... do not be offended, but in Ukraine there is no production of Burgul, maybe packaging ... and the Turkish producer is mainly in Ukraine
you can dispute this issue in court and win a bunch of dough from the manufacturer ... let our local people not be fooled and the price does not go off scale under the name .. our Turkish costs 2u per kg, and the local one is even more expensive

Bulgur with tomatoes in a slow cooker here, probably all types of burgul ... on the right, the lightest, probably looks like your Melisa72?! ... then maybe I'm wrong ... I've never met this one here ... something similar we use for porridge and sour -dairy soups ...
I also hooked up my mother-in-law .. she laughs at the Turks ... which means different regions for everyone ... and here I pour oil into the interregional cuisine
vobschem hushed up, if something is wrong - SORRY !!
Bulgur with tomatoes in a slow cooker we have this type, only even smaller

I often buy the products of this manufacturer - and yellow, and green, and black lentils, various mixtures - I never had any complaints ...
Everything suits me ... such a bulgur ... I don't care, it doesn't taste like pearl barley, I can say that for sure.

Russian-speaking means your own relatives ... what a difference to me Siberia or Russia or western Ukraine, Belarus, etc.! You understand me, it's already great !!!! You and I are already MOTHERLAND! what else do you need for a good mood and conversation
here we talked, shared our knowledge, we are already all-knowing in front of relatives and friends
so these are the Turks))) "Fair" as a distributor both in you and in Ukraine is everywhere ... in the same place on the site it is written
A unique collection is:
- the widest range of products from different countries
- transparent packaging that demonstrates the product as clearly as possible
- stylish and modern product design, developed by one of the leading branding agencies in Russia and awarded the "gold" Pentawards 2009
- small package weight (350 g), motivating the consumer to test the purchase of the novelty
- strict quality control at all stages of production that meets high standards

I saw a joke in Lebanon at one enterprise ... they buy wholesale Turkish pasta in bags, and pack it under the name Italiano .. they laughed for a long time with my husband .. he did not immediately notice .. but my nose would crawl through and find out .. the bosses were embarrassed , but it was too late .... so disgraceful in everything and with oils and other things ... they make a fool of everyone as they can ..
By the way, I saw Lebanese olive oil being bottled under Spain ... and laughter and sin, as they say
but just in general, the main thing is that you would like the product ... I advise you to make yourself cheaper and happier in the summer that you made it yourself, why overpay and nothing complicated .. you can grind with a coffee grinder ... or a couple of times through a meat grinder with a fine grate (only the grains should not be very dry) then grind them with your hands, so that grains become .. and put them to dry in the sun and that's it

Melisa72ru, thanks to you, I discovered a very tasty porridge for myself. Thank you!!!
I caught my eye by chance this recipe, I think - let me try, especially since the groats are on sale and I was wondering what kind of Bulgur it was. Previously, they did not eat wheat porridge, but this one came to taste for the whole family, I bought it in different places, from a different manufacturer, and both are very tasty, but differ both in appearance and taste.
Melisa72ru
sima12 Sima, there is nothing, eat to your health
I have not yet seen another Bulgur here. I'll also look for another manufacturer, I'll try ..

Today I cooked this porridge, I liked it very, very much! I added corn instead of peas.
Only this bulgur is expensive if you do it often ... Maybe try wheat grits instead? ..
fronya40
Melisa, we have exactly the same bulgur, I love him very much. expensive, of course, but sometimes you want to, so we pamper ourselves. about pearl barley, no, I really distinguished it, it looks like Artek Artek grits more, only coarse grinding, well, the color is appropriate.

Girls we sell bulgur of 3 manufacturers: Fair 24 UAH kg, Dobrodiya - 3.80 UAH - 400 gr, Olympus - 6 UAH - also 400 or 450 grams. So we compared the Fair and Olympus, they are the same in appearance, the same in taste - only the price is different.
fronya40
Sima, what are you? and where is such a miracle at 3.80? and olympus 6? what stores have you seen?
fronya40
I've been looking in the internet-price fair-packing 350 gr-25 UAH. maybe you messed up?
sima12
No, we have 1 kg 24 UAH in our supermarket, there is a whole shelf of Fair products. My friends and I also got hooked on it, so we go everywhere we look and compare. I'll go and see it on purpose. The groats are yellow, the grains are long, which reminds steamed rice, only it seems to have been polished in places.
fronya40
Sim, which supermarket? look tomorrow, how many grams are.
sima12
We have a supermarket chain Absolute, I don’t know do you have them?
fronya40
no, there is no such thing ...
koziv
We have an inexpensive bulgur in the Tavria V. network 400 g 5 or 6 UAH, bought a week ago and forgot the exact price and manufacturer. And in Crimea, they bought 11 hryvnias for 400 g.
