Ingredients

Puff pastry
Mustard
Hard cheese
Bacon strips
Yolk for smearing
Sausages or smoked sausages

Cooking method

  • Twisty is a very original and simple savory pastry. They can be eaten hot or cold.
  • I cook puff pastry according to THIS recipe, exactly one serving.
  • Roll out a layer of puff pastry 4-5 mm thick. The width of the dough should be equal to the length of the bacon strips.
  • Lubricate the surface of the dough with mustard (I did not grease)
  • Sprinkle the cheese grated on a coarse grater on top of the mustard.

  • Place the bacon strips with a few centimeters left between them.

  • Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Cut into strips. Try to cut evenly, sprinkling flour on the knife.
  • Take the strips by the ends and, carefully twisting, roll them into tubes. Place on a baking sheet with baking paper.
  • Grease the tubes with a beaten egg.
  • Roll out the next layer of dough 4 - 5 mm thick and equal to the length of the sausages.
  • Lubricate with yolk and place the sausages with a distance of 2 cm between them.

  • On top, put the same layer of dough, also greased with yolk and press in between the sausages so that the layers of dough come together.

  • Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to make slicing easier later.
  • Cut into strips 2 cm thick and place on a baking sheet. Brush with yolk, without touching the slices of sausage and dough, so that good layering is visible when baking.

  • Bake the twists and sausages in the dough at 200 degrees for 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
