Hello everybody!
Every year we, as novice summer residents, have the question of "fighting the harvest."
It seems to be a simple and natural solution to purchase an electric dryer. But upon closer examination, it becomes not so simple. Affordable dryers obviously cannot cope with the peak load in the form of several apricot buckets, and something industrial costs accordingly. And the place is hoo. But my engineering thought more and more often turned my gaze towards the oven. There is a fan, the thermostat operates from 40 degrees. Heater power - heaps. The internal volume is also nothing like that. The only thing missing is the pallets themselves. But this is fixable. I bought everything I needed at the nearest construction supermarket. Six pallets required five two-meter slats 15x15 mm, 24 corners, 96 self-tapping screws and 1.2 meters of coarse mesh. For money it is 100 UAH. or about 12 yo. I spent less than half a day on making.

These are the pallets I got.

That's all that's left of a couple of apricot buckets for now. This is about half of what happened. Some were tasted in the process, and the rest disappears by leaps and bounds ...

A few comments did come up in the end. A standard oven fan circulates air unevenly throughout the volume. The top and bottom dry faster, and changing pallets is not very convenient, because all the places are occupied. In addition, it creates a low-frequency rumble. It seems not strong, but acting on the nerves. Next time I plan to use not it, but attach another, completely silent.

Good idea, THANKS!

But:
- such a design will work in the kitchen - and give excess heat to the apartment, especially in summer, when the dryer will work for days. The electric dryer can be taken out onto the balcony, outside
- if you fold 6 homemade pallets, they will take up as much space as an electric dryer
- high-quality electric dryers very well cope with a large volume of fruits and berries
- it is very easy to change pallets in places in an electric dryer, and to change the drying temperature, the fan works in the right direction, and so on ...

But, respect to the forum craftsmen!

Tatyana, thank you very much!
Your recommendations on the actual drying technology helped me a lot. And the remarks are fair. In my case, the cost factor was still decisive. The dryer, which I like, is far from the first place on the list of priority purchases, and with the influx of apricots something had to be done urgently.
It's a pity that only today I saw the recipe for jam with cognac. I really wanted to do it! We'll have to go buy a kilogram on purpose!
