A drink that tastes better than any lemonade

Ingredients

basil (preferably purple) 1 bundle
lemon (can be replaced with citric acid) 1 PC
sugar 1 st
anise seeds (optional) 1h l.

Cooking method

  • Pour 2-3 liters of water into a saucepan and put on fire, bring to a boil. Wash the lemon and cut into slices. Wash the basil and remove the tough stems. Pour a glass of sugar into the water (you can adjust to taste), basil and last lemon. Boil for 2-3 minutes (no more). Cool and strain the drink. The drink, thanks to the lemon, turns out to be a beautiful pink color. In the summer heat, this is a wonderful refreshing and tonic drink, moreover tasty and healthy!

Note

Now it is hot and therefore very thirsty and we drink water, juices, kvass, lemonade. For more than 3 years in our family, together with the compote, kvass, the Orange Juice drink went with a bang. But lately this drink has gotten a little fed up, and freezing an orange and then grinding them takes a lot of time. And then I turned up just a delicious recipe for Basil Drink! In addition to being very tasty, it is also healthy, and besides, it is simply elementary to prepare! We just got hooked on him ... my husband is so generally dragged by his taste, although basil in salads is not very fond of.
You can also make a compote drink by adding an apple or your favorite berry or fruit along with the basil. I like to add anise seeds.
Today I brewed a drink in my new SV Saturn ST-MC9184 on the Soup 1mm program.

An interesting recipe, you have to try it, otherwise it's all compote, but compote. ...
MariS
Yes, the combination is very interesting! It is a pity that the basilica is missing this year

And in the heat, I steam apples with boiling water, a little ginger, lemon, and when it cools down, I add honey. You can only apples with honey. Very aromatic and tasty. Again, the apple harvest is quickly destroyed.
nila
Girls, the drink has an unusual, new taste!
I wrote about apples, you can add here, with ginger, I don't know, it can set off the aroma of basil.
nila
MariS, I also planted just a couple of basil bushes. Now you have to buy armfuls from grannies on the market! Well, very quickly he drinks with us!
I will plant a plantation next yearA drink that tastes better than any lemonade!
This year we discovered lemon basil for ourselves. And I also added it to this drink! But we have it very rarely on the market, I want to get seeds.
Kalyusya
I've already cooked it! Sits in a saucepan for now. It was interesting to see how the green color changes to pink. And yes, delicious! Thanks for the new drink!
nila
Kalyusya, Galina! This is efficiency! You don't need to hold the green stuff / lemon for a long time ... I brewed it for half an hour and drain it! We didn’t filter before, but simply poured the drink and the taste was very rich.
And behind the color, yes -! interesting to watch the transformation of green-brown to pink!
And we have already tasted it brewed in SV today - we liked the taste more!
Caprice
I often make a basil drink with lemon or lime in a Tupperway jug (no boiling, just pour boiling water over). True, star anise (anise) has not yet been added there. I'll have to try.
nila
Caprice, try and write as you like! So I never thought that star anise and anise are one and the same herb. I'll know!
makabusha
Was green or purple basil used here?
nila
Natasha,of course purple is better. But it turns out that the same basil comes in different varieties and with different smells.
I had never been particularly interested in it before, and if I had to buy a bush for meat I took any. Now I have learned to sniff. We have one with herbs)) so she always has several types of basil ... even there is a clove. Here she has, if there is lemon (and it is light green and smells like lemon), I definitely take a couple of bunches. It goes to my salad and to the drink, I add a little lemon for flavor, but the main part is purple.
But I even made a drink from basil with purple-green leaves and nothing.
Here you have to choose according to your taste and the presence of this aroma in you or in the bazaar.

Can dried basil be used? And how many?
nila
I can't say anything about dried basil yet. Recently started using the recipe and so far fresh in abundance. But I want to try to dry the basil for the winter, and then, if possible, it will be a healthy drink in winter too!

We have a lot of purple and green basil on the market, all very tart. ... Purple in the villages is generally grown for beauty near flowers))))))) And the most delicious basil for salads, with a delicate taste and aroma, was taken last year in Silpo in cups with roots. I'll try.

I used dried basil. It turned out great! I took a good handful.

The color turned out to be very beautiful: bright crimson. I didn't add anise seeds, because I don't like the smell of pectusin.
Thanks to the author for the recipe!

Lilia, thank you, I will do it with dried, because this year I did not plant basil on purpose (I dried a lot last year).

I tried to brew it in a jug. True, she replaced the lemon with lime. Added star anise. Delicious.
Girls, star anise is also called star anise.

I bought seedlings from my grandmother ... I said you weren't overjoyed, but at first I was happy, he was like a flop ... and then I think it doesn't seem like it! The flowers turned out
And I looked in Silpo in the spring, I also wanted to sit down, but did not get into the glasses
Caprice, I know such a star anise)) I bought it for a long time on the occasion and for a long time I have it lying around lay, did not know where to apply it ... I think I threw it out later. I just didn't even know it was anise!
And with lime, probably more flavor, but for us it's expensive

p.s. : pardon: forgot to immediately insert a photo, called and distracted ...

Loved the drink! Thank you, Nilochka! And taste, and color, and smell - class! It reminded me of hibiscus something.

Ira,! Drink to your health and stock up on basil for the winter! A healthy drink instead of water!

What's the difference? Star anise is star anise. Here in Israel, star anise is called anise. It seems they don't know anything else.
I completely forgot: I would also add a piece of ginger to this drink for a rich taste
makabusha
I report, I made 3 liters for nature: purple basil, lemon, star anise (I found a packet of star anise, stars, a century ago, like Nila, I never used it) and there were stems from mint (I prepared the leaves for the winter in the freezer). No one guessed what it was, there was a version about hibiscus and compote. I don't like Pectusin either, but I put 1/3 stars and it was not intrusive. Everyone drank, even my little one drank (like there is nothing harmful). Now I'll throw the recipe for mom, everyone who tried it also asked for the recipe. Thank you!!

I didn’t figure out the basil, I bought a lemon one, I waited and waited until the drink changed color to pink, I didn’t wait until I realized whether I liked it or not, but I’ll try to make it with purple basil (in the recipe it’s probably worth pointing out that basil needs purple ).
nila
Caprice, I twisted a piece of ginger, wanted to add ... and then did not dare, I was afraid that the ginger would pull off the taste!
But you can try!
makabusha, it's so nice that not only you, but also your friends liked the drink ... and most importantly, my son, he is the main taster!
I believe that he will only benefit from the basil drink, but with mint I would be careful for the boy. Don't get carried away.
This is what I found on Google, the first thing I opened

Central Asia, Europe, America.

Vitamins and benefits of basil

Thanks to the vitamins B1, B2, PP contained in the plant, basil has many beneficial properties. In terms of ascorbic acid content, it ranks fourth among spicy herbs, second only to parsley, black and red peppers. Basil is also rich in rutin, glycosides, and tannins.

As a medicine, basil is used in the treatment of inflammatory processes of the respiratory and urinary tract. To increase lactation, women drink tea with basil leaves. Also, a decoction of the leaves contributes to the rapid healing of wounds, the removal of allergic dermatitis. The following recipe with basil will help get rid of skin ailments: 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of herbs with boiling water, cover the container with a lid and insist on a water bath for 15 minutes. The cooled broth is used in the form of compresses.

In case of flu or colds, basil lowers the temperature, reduces the amount of discharge from the sinuses. For this, 2 tbsp. tablespoons of dry basil leaves are poured with 2 cups of boiling water and insisted in a thermos for about 6 hours. The broth is taken in half a glass. 3 times a day.

Basil has tonic and antispasmodic properties. It is used to stimulate appetite, strengthen blood vessels and heart muscle, eliminate nervous tension and insomnia. Basil has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract, helping to get rid of bloating and flatulence.

I would like to note that the plant contains the largest amount of essential oil during the active growth of the green mass, while ascorbic acid accumulates during the budding period. The fatty acids found in basil seeds are about 19%.
Our ancestors have proven for centuries that the smell of this herb stimulates the mental and sexual systems and strengthens the nerves.

Basil has long been very popular among various peoples as a remedy. In folk medicine, the aerial part of the plant is used as an antispasmodic agent for flatulence, epilepsy, rheumatism, stomach cramps, dyspepsia, migraine, and for the treatment of alcoholism.

Basil is an excellent tonic and sedative after hard, prolonged physical and mental work. Basil leaves have lactogonic properties, added to tea or as a seasoning to food, enhance milk separation in a nursing mother.

yara, specified in the recipe! I cooked with lemon basil, but half with purple! the color was not saturated, but pink.I like lemon basil very much, but I rarely drink it

Not enough to change the taste. Will give some piquancy. And about the benefits - ginger is very useful. But: I do not brew a drink, but brew it in a Tupper jug. That is, my products are not boiled.

Purple basil, unlike green basil, has an aniseed flavor.

I just thought and decided that I would also sow purple basil on the balcony
nila
By the way! I read in some source that basil should not be dried, but frozen ...
But what about dry seasonings sold
And more)) that this drink can be preserved for the winter, like birch sap ... and also ... well, unless someone has overgrown basil and a bunch of empty containers

The best option. Basil grows well in pots. And, most importantly, at the same time, you always have the opportunity to use fresh. I grow in pots.

I read about the medicinal properties of basil .. just a little cough for another weekend, now there is practically no .. and I have an allergy ... so "right" we drank basil infusion))))

but I didn't grow basil in a pot ((.. there was such a thin and unfortunate stalk))

What a mini garden on the window! We must buy seeds and try to plant them on the window, they will ripen just before winter.

I have it on my balcony all year round. But our climate is different.
And if your window is on the sunny side, you can delight yourself and loved ones with fresh basil all year round.

Yesterday I walked across the city to get the basil. I bought a purple-green one. Huge bundle bunch. Therefore, the question arose: how much should you put in the branches? I'm not greedy - I cooked everything .... The family has not yet tasted it, but it cools great!
nila
Helen, if you come across pure purple, then try it too! Yesterday my husband once bought me a green-violet and the color turned out to be light pink!

In the morning I did not go, and at 10 already 32 * in the shade. But the basil is not at home and I had to cook compote
mylik.sv
Piano, yesterday I also brewed this drink for the first time. So I had a small withering bunch of basil, 4 small branches. It turned out - just right! The result is a pleasant, refreshing and aromatic drink. We loved it! And the color turned out as in the title photo!
I'll go take my thanks to the author.

Made yesterday with dried basil, so delicious :)
Thanks for the recipe. So, you can make a drink in winter.

It is definitely not necessary to cut, because of this it loses its ethereal properties. I used to freeze it for meat that year ... so I just cut off the leaves. But I froze a little and didn't have to cut off a lot. For a drink, you can cut off the tops along with the stems (up to a woody stem), and then pick off the leaves. I hope I wrote it clearly

Yesterday I threw the leaves into a 0.5 liter mug, poured boiling water over it, covered it with a lid. Then I added a little lemon juice, a spoonful of sugar - and voila! KANpot is ready!
