Fig balls of Baron Munchausen

Ingredients

marzipan 125 g
powdered sugar 40 g
rum 10 ml
dried figs 4 things
orange marmalade 2 tbsp. l.
candied almond topping 50 g

Cooking method

  • Karl Friedrich Jerome Baron von Munchausen was born in Bodenwerder (Germany). The whole world knows him as a hero of fairy tales, cartoons and numerous film adaptations. Baron Munchausen was a real person. Born into the family of a colonel, at the age of 17 he left for Russia, where he took part in the Turkish campaign. Later he received the rank of lieutenant and began to command an elite company of the regiment. By the way, the action of most of the famous stories of the baron takes place in Russia.
  • Before returning to his native Bodenwerder, where he lived from 1752 until his death in 1797, he was not known. Here, in a hunting pavilion, hung with stuffed animals, the baron told his fantastic stories. And it is quite possible that the retired military man would have remained an unknown unknown if his stories had not begun to spread around the district, and in 1781, 16 of them were published on the pages of the magazine "Guide for Merry People", published in Berlin. After that, several books about Munchausen appeared. After the release of one of them, the baron even sued, but to no avail. He gained real fame after the book by Rudolf Erich Raspe.
  • In Bodenwerder, everything reminds of a famous resident. Images of the baron are everywhere. The main attraction of the city is the building where Baron Munchausen was born. Now it is the city hall and museum. The city regularly hosts various performances and musicals, and on the second Saturday in August, Germany's largest fireworks festival takes place on the Weser River. 🔗)
  • Recipe from Annette Voltaire.
  • Why are the fig balls called in honor of Baron Munchausen, I did not find, but everyone should try such delicious sweets.
  • Mix marzipan with sifted icing sugar and rum.
  • Cut the washed and drained figs into quarters, roll each in marzipan and form into balls.
  • Heat the orange marmalade and crush it into a smooth paste. Dip marzipan balls with figs in marmalade and then roll in almonds.
  • Put the balls in a box, shifting each row with parchment paper.
  • Instead of figs, in the same way, you can roll pieces of dried apricots, quince jelly, dates or cocktail cherries in marzipan mass.
  • I made candy from fresh figs (5 pcs). Melted sugar (50 g) into caramel. I added figs cut into pieces, lemon juice (2 tbsp. L.). when the mass was heated, pectin (3 g) was added, mixed with sugar (20 g) and brought to 105 °. It turns out fig marmalade. Has cooled down. The rest is all according to the recipe.
