Cooking method

  • Carp is a cult German fish.
  • It was bred in monastic ponds and in some Cistorian monasteries carp farming brought up to 70% of the monasteries' income. The name carp comes from the name Cupid.
  • In Germany, approximately 12,000 tonnes of carp are produced annually, of which more than half are in Bavaria. Carp is a seasonal fish. They are eaten in late autumn when the water is cold and the meat gains additional strength.
  • I really wanted to cook carp, but I could not find a fresh one. In all shops there were only live carp. But since in Germany, carp is also called peasant carp (Bauern Karpfen) for its amazing endurance, undemanding conditions, I decided to cook it.
