Alt Dark Beer Punch with Fresh Berries and Altbier Beer War - Bowle

Ingredients

Alt beer very chilled (any high-quality dark German beer) 1 l
Sweet and sour apples 1-2 pcs.
Strawberry handful
Raspberry handful
Sugar 2 tbsp. l. on horseback
Lemon syrup taste
Lemon wedges and mint leaves for serving

Cooking method

  • ".... Heart in spite of:
You and I are two shores (beer)
    By one river. "
  • The words of the verse of this once popular song, like nothing by the way, fit the situation that has developed between two German cities, located on opposite banks of the Rhine, practically opposite each other. Düsseldorf is located only 40 km downstream of Cologne.
  • And although quarrels, misunderstandings, open hostility and direct conflicts often arise between neighbors, an example of such a long local-political rivalry between two adjacent cities in history still needs to be looked for!
  • I will not go into the historical details of this confrontation, I will only say one thing: in the past, Cologne lost three times to Dusseldorf in global rivalry. Moreover, for the third time, the British occupation authorities dealt a strong blow to the pride of Cologne, uniting the Rhineland and Westphalia, as a result of which Dusseldorf became the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia with all the ensuing consequences for Cologne. But Cologne was founded by the Romans and was already known as a big city, while Dusseldorf residents, one might say, still walked under the table in their village houses, as evidenced by the part of the city's name - Dorf-village.
  • It is not for nothing that Agrippina the younger, mother of the Emperor Nero, is loved and revered in Cologne. Born in a fortification that later became Cologne, the noble Roman woman had a hand in obtaining Cologne city status. In memory of this event, her persona entered the Cologne carnival triumvirate, consisting of the Prince (Prinz), the Peasant (Bauer) and the Virgin (Jungfrau). By the virgin, of course, Agrippina is meant, although it is known that she was not distinguished by special chastity. And as usual since the Middle Ages, her role in religious mysteries is still played by men.
  • The sensitivity of the Cologne people is understandable. In the Middle Ages, Cologne was one of the richest cities in the Holy Roman Empire. Proud and without an inferiority complex. The city's treasury was constantly replenished by pilgrims who came to visit the cathedral to venerate the relics of the three wise men, who were transported from Milan in the twelfth century. In addition to this, the city enjoyed various privileges, not least because of its location on the Rhine, which allowed the local population to replenish their chests with gold. That is, Cologne, in modern terms, was engaged in some kind of rekitiry in relation to the merchants following the Rhine. Perhaps because of this, which entered the historical memory, the former greatness, the inhabitants of Cologne consider themselves not only the "navel of the earth", but also the center of the universe. One German artist even made his own globe on a dispute and received a patent for the technology of cutting and gluing maps, because he had to pretty much break his head to make the Cologne globe look believable. But then a whole solar system was created, consisting of Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, etc. And if the rest of the planets in relation to Cologne are somewhere beyond the horizon, then Dusseldorf generally ended up in a black hole.
  • In neighboring Düsseldorf, the carnival is ruled by a tandem - Prince and Princess (Prinzenpaar). And even this seemingly insignificant difference provides a basis for a regular exchange of "pleasantries", because cities consider their own form of carnival device to be the only correct one.
  • Carnivals in both Cologne and Düsseldorf are held on "Mad Monday" (Rosenmontag), during which everyone competes with the same intensity in the resourcefulness and severity of carnival satire. In the length of festive processions with numerous mummers, Cologne usually wins, while Düsseldorf dominates from the point of view of clownish truth, demonstrating sharper and more topical satire.
  • Only the offended Cologne found solace on their way to the championship - today Cologne is known as the unofficial "blue" capital of Germany.
  • One of the main principles of tolerant people of Cologne is: "Live and let others live (Leve un levve losse)".
  • But the constantly looming Dusseldorf does not allow the Cologne to sleep peacefully. Apparently, dislike for the neighboring city has become so firmly embedded in the consciousness of the inhabitants of Cologne that it has become part of the cultural and genetic code. But as is the case in modern Europe, which promotes tolerance and tolerance, this historical enmity, as we already see, has taken on the forms of buffoonery rivalry and even became a fashion. Düsseldorf also does not remain in debt. The complete opposite of Cologne, Düsseldorf, this "nouveau riche upstart", haughty and rich on the coal and steel yeast of the neighboring Ruhr region, does not remain in debt, although it takes a more passive position.
  • But the main front of the struggle runs along the line of beer patriotism.
  • Kölsch and Alt are two beers that are made using practically the same top fermentation technology. Only one is brewed in Cologne (Kölsch) and it is light, and the second is dark in Düsseldorf (Alt). Malt is added to the Alt when brewing beer. And, despite the fact that compared to Alto Kölsch is a light and soft top-fermented beer, Cologne beer patriotism can be considered a particularly difficult case. Here, boasting of their tolerance, somewhat rude and rustic Cologne, who constantly feel their grievances in relations with Dusseldorf, will not yield an inch or a quart of their Kölsch beer.
  • Although the apparently intelligent and refined Dusseldorf residents do not remain in debt and, in general, unfoundedly claim that Kölsch is, at best, practically lemonade, and at worst, tasteless swill (waessrige Ploerre).
  • So the exchange of pleasantries about beer with the pleasure and passion that brewers and beer lovers all over the world have in common is shared by both sides of the conflict. Interestingly, newspapers such as the Sueddeutche Zeitung and the Berliner Welt am Sonntag devoted entire materials to the history of the Cologne-Düsseldorf quarrel and the situation on its fronts.
  • Wrestling reaches its peak during carnivals, and most of the witticisms fall below the belt. In many cases, depending on the joker's affiliation, in most of the mockery, you can safely change the names of cities.
  • - "Save water! Drink Kölsch!"
  • - Why did Nero burn Rome?
  • - Dusseldorf was not yet there!
  • - Why is the viola so dark?
  • - Blackened with anger, because not a Kölsch!
  • - Why does a Cologne resident take a ruler to bed?
  • - To measure how deep he slept!
  • - Why did a citizen of Cologne want to become a Düsseldorf resident on his deathbed?
  • - So that there is one less inhabitant in Dusseldorf!
  • - When does a Cologne resident lose 80 percent of his intelligence?
  • - If his girlfriend from Dusseldorf dumps him!
  • But some warming between neighbors still dawned on the horizon. Kölsch beer began to appear in Düsseldorf tents more and more often, and some time ago the first Kölsch Lovers' Club was created in Düsseldorf.
  • The right to choose Kölsch or Alt is up to everyone; it is ultimately just a matter of taste. In order to understand which city you like, you should definitely visit Cologne - lazy, corrupt and somewhat sloppy, but cozy and tolerant in its own way, with its beautiful Gothic cathedral. And then cross to the other side and enjoy your stay in Dusseldorf, which has the image of a fashionable, dynamic and bourgeois city that occupies a worthy place in the top ten cities in the world in terms of living comfort.
  • Without this it will be difficult to understand that, perhaps, the whole point is that "the dear ones scold - only amuse themselves."
  • Preparation
  • - Put sugar in a small saucepan with 1/4 cup water and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Alt Dark Beer Punch with Fresh Berries and Altbier Beer War - Bowle
  • - Wash the apple, core and cut into wedges. Wash and dry the strawberries and raspberries. Defrost frozen berries a little beforehand at room temperature. Place the fruit in a jug and pour the sugar syrup over the top. Cover and let it brew for a couple of hours, or in the refrigerator overnight. Stir gently a couple of times until the apples are completely covered with syrup.
  • - Prepare lemon and mint before serving. Pour beer into a jug, let the foam settle, stir to combine the syrup with the beer and
  • pour into glasses. You need to drink immediately.
  • Tasty, unusual, chic and winning! Like both men and girls.
  • I'm announcing another version of the purely masculine punch if I can find the right ingredients. But I will try, because the most interesting!

The dish is designed for

4 servings

Note

In a note I would like to add that I, as a person interested in "beer history", prefer Alt beer, and at the same time the city of Dusseldorf, where any woman will find an outfit to her liking and according to the size of her wallet, especially during the sales period.

And here is another curious fact from the beer life.

Altbier Münsterer Art, a drier yet oily beer, is traditionally served in summer with strawberries. This is a regional type of beer unlike any other viola.

In fact, this is a lager beer of top fermentation, and the word Alt means nothing more than an old technology. That is, it is not related to the Düsseldorf alto.

Previously, this beer contained a significant proportion of wheat, but now it is brewed differently, aging for 6 months and using a lactic acid culture. This slightly modified beer has become more "creamy", and there is practically no bitterness and astringency of hops in it. But its sour and dry taste is very refreshing. This beer is brewed by the Pinkus Müller brewery, Kreuzstr. 4-10.

The Pinkus Müller Brewery was founded in 1816 and is family owned. Its previous owner Carl, the father of the current owner, was a famous opera singer in the twenties, and "Pinkus" is his stage nickname, derived from "Manneken Piss", a sculpture of a peeing boy in Brussels. This is how the singer once extinguished the gas lamp.
So with this “singing brewer” the brand became popular. The modern Pinkus Müller is also known for the fact that, not without the help of the Dutch, in 1980 she released the first environmentally friendly beer in Germany - size = 10pt][/ size].

Beer from Pinkus Müller is especially bought by firms from the USA and Japan.
