Several ways how to calculate the required amount of ingredients if we use a different form as indicated in the recipe
It so happens that in a recipe that interests us or has long been tested by us, a form is used, the size of which for some reason does not suit us.
There may be a lot of reasons:
- we do not have such a form at the moment
-we would like to make baked goods with a smaller or larger diameter
- we need to bake a rectangular product, not a round one and vice versa ...
In such situations, many have difficulties with recalculating the number of necessary products.
I offer you several ways to count. Thanks to them, you can easily improvise with bakeware and their sizes.

1) Conversion for round shapes.

We take the original number of products and multiply them by the corresponding index. Simply and easily!

from 24cm to 26cm - 1,17; from 24cm to 28cm - 1,36; from 24cm to 30cm - 1,56; from 24cm to 32cm - 1,78.
from 26cm to 24cm - 0,85; from 26cm to 28cm - 1,16; from 26cm to 30cm - 1,33; from 26cm to 32cm - 1,51.
from 28cm to 24cm - 0,73; from 28cm to 26cm - 0,86; from 28cm to 30cm - 1,15; from 28cm to 32cm - 1,31.
from 30cm to 24cm - 0,64; from 30cm to 26cm - 0,75; from 30cm to 28cm - 0,87; from 30cm to 32cm - 1,14.
from 32cm to 24cm - 0,56; from 32cm to 26cm - 0,66; from 32cm to 28cm - 0,77; from 32cm to 30cm - 0,88.

Let me give you an illustrative example.

Diameter increase:
You have a cake recipe for a 28cm diameter pan, your goal is to calculate how many products of the same recipe are needed for a 32cm diameter pan.
We count the number of ingredients of shape 28cm in shape 32cm, the index in this case is 1,31.

Ingredients for 28cm cake:
300g flour
100g sugar
200g butter
Ingredients for 32cm cake:
300g flour multiplied by 1.31 = 393g flour
100g sugar * 1.31 = 131g sugar
200g butter * 1.31 = 262g butter

Diameter reduction:
We count the number of ingredients of shape 32cm in shape 24cm, the index in this case is 0,56.

Ingredients for 32cm cake:
300g flour
100g sugar
200g butter
Ingredients for 24cm cake:
300g flour * 0.56 = 168g flour
100g sugar * 0.56 = 56g sugar
200g butter * 0.56 = 112g butter

2. Conversion from rectangular to round and vice versa.

a) rectangular shape → round shape
For example, you have a recipe that uses a rectangular shape measuring 42 x 29 cm. You want to use a round shape with a diameter of 30 cm. Let's calculate the required number of ingredients for this form.
Rectangular area = 42 * 29 = 1218cm2.
Round area = radius (half the diameter) squared times pi (≈3.14).
15 * 15 * 3.14 = 706.5 cm2
Let's make a proportion where an area equal to 1218 cm2 (this is the original rectangular shape) corresponds to the full (so-called one hundred percent) number of ingredients, and an area equal to 706.5 cm2 (our round shape) corresponds to an unknown number of ingredients, let's call this value „x “.
1218 cm2 = 100%
706.5 cm2 = x
Now let's compose an equation with the help of which we find the "x":
100 * 706.5 = 1218 * x
x = 100 * 706.5: 1218
x = 58%
Thus, we calculated that the number of ingredients for a mold with a diameter of 30 cm is about half (≈58%) of the number of ingredients for a rectangular shape 42 x 29 cm.

b) round shape → rectangular shape

Round shape 30cm. Its area = 15 * 15 * 3.14 = 706.5 cm2.
Rectangular shape 42 x 29 cm.Its area = 42 * 29 cm = 1218 cm2

We get the following proportion:
706.5 cm2 = 100%
1218 cm2 = x
x = 100 * 1218: 706.5 = 172.39%
This means that a rectangular shape measuring 42 x 29 cm requires 72% more food than a round shape with a diameter of 30 cm.

And here's how to calculate the total number of products:

Initial quantity: 150g flour
58% of the original amount: 150 * 0.58 = 87g flour
+ 72% to the original amount: 150 * 1.72 = 258g flour

Thank you for your attention and good luck with your experiments!
