Feast of the Bright Resurrection of ChristEaster is the main event of the year for Orthodox Christians. Holidays are a holiday and a celebration of celebrations - Easter is celebrated for seven days, that is, the whole week, and therefore this week is called "Bright Easter Week". Every day of the week is also called light; Bright Monday, Bright Tuesday, etc. The entire period before Ascension - 40 days after Easter - is considered the Easter period.

In short, "Christ is Risen!" contains the whole essence of our faith, all the firmness of our hope and hope. These words, repeated annually countless times, always, nevertheless, amaze our ears with their novelty and the significance of the highest revelation.
A kiss is also associated with this Easter greeting. This is an ancient sign of reconciliation and love, dating back to the times of the Apostles.

A. Maikov

Christ is risen!

Everywhere the gospel is buzzing
From all the churches the people are knocking down.
Dawn is already looking from heaven ...
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!

The snow cover has already been removed from the fields,

And the rivers are torn from the shackles,
And the nearby forest turns green ...
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!

The earth is waking up
And the fields dress
Spring is coming, full of miracles!
Christ is risen! Christ is risen!

Gingerbread
Good evening!
I just quietly crawled away and took off my hat to the author of the topic for SUCH detailed and rich information.
To be honest, I pay attention only to those cakes that can be kneaded and baked in a bread maker. I would be grateful for a proven recipe in Moulinex (3000 or 5004).
For my part, I want to share one piece of advice: what if it helps someone !? It's not exactly culinary, but ...
For a long time, God did not give me children. The doctors did not see any reasons, but only wondered and came up with all sorts of diagnoses for their own reassurance. I went to all the offices. Was in every conceivable hospital. No result. And then one old woman in the queue to see my next doctor once said to me that it’s necessary to check with God whether you will have children or not. And does not go to doctors in vain. And you need to do this: by Easter night (by Saturday evening), prepare an Easter cake according to all the rules. Only the one who asks God for something should knead it. Knead for a long time for 3 - 4 hours and do not let anyone in this process. Constantly mentally, kneading, ask the question of interest. Then this cake must be consecrated (you can ask someone for a thread) - the fact is that it was back in the seventies. Frankly speaking, I had no idea how it was all done. Thanks to the neighbor who took my pasque. After its consecration, the pasque must be cut in half with YOUR hand - there will be the answer. If there is a rather large cavity inside, then you are empty, said the grandmother. And if the inside is exactly like Dutch cheese, then you will eat one half yourself, and the other half should be eaten by your husband (he may not even guess about anything), calm down, don't go to the doctors - you will have children.
You know - this was the first and last time in my life when I got a wonderful Easter cake! I have never been able to repeat anything like this.
And God gave me not just a child, but even the sex of the child, which I thought of, gave me.Exactly 9 and a half months later, I became a mother. And how many friends this advice has helped! (unless, of course, there is an obvious pathology).
And how I believed! I even realized my dream 3 years ago - I was in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, in order to see with my own eyes one of the first indulgences of the Holy Fire.
Probably, such sacraments are not subject to the human mind. You just have to believe.
Sorry if I wrote off topic.

PREPARATION FOR EASTER HOLIDAY. EASTER TABLE

Preparing for the Easter holiday. Easter table

There are many traditions dedicated to celebrating Easter. Preparations for Easter began in advance.

IN Monday Tuesday was taken paint eggs, which were a symbol of the spring rebirth of nature, the fertility of the earth. In the old days, they were painted mainly in red, which was associated, first of all, with the blood of Jesus Christ.

Preparing for the Easter holiday. Easter table

IN Wednesday-Thursday started bake large quantities of cakes, made Easter (cottage cheese, cream, sour cream, pressed in the form of a pyramid), which were eaten and treated to visiting guests all Easter week until Radunitsa.

Small products from shelled wheat flour are molded in the form of crosses, lambs, cockerels, chickens, doves, and larks.

In the same day cooked oatmeal jelly to "satisfy" the frost.

On Maundy Thursday, before the great day of Easter, they cooked Thursday salt, and consecrated together with Easter cakes and eggs.

In the old days, salt was prepared on Maundy Thursday for the whole year. Black salt was not only used in cooking, but also healed people and added to the feed for livestock if it was attacked by a disease.

How should you spend Maundy Thursday?
- The very name "Maundy Thursday" originates from the moment when Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples. On this day, each person must cleanse himself - both body and soul, and put his home in order. From Maundy Thursday you can bake Easter cakes and slowly stock up on food for the festive table. But the most important thing is to go to church and “prepare” the soul, cleanse it, and confess. It is important to repent of all the wrong actions committed in relation to oneself, relatives and God.
The question was answered by Archpriest Pyotr Landvitovich from the Church of St. John the Theologian.

Easter eggs and cakes are blessed on Saturday in the church.

Already in ancient times, the custom was fixed to end Lent and begin the celebration of Easter at 12 o'clock in the morning on Holy Saturday.

Late in the evening on Holy Saturday, all believers gather in temples.

At about 12 o'clock in the morning, the priests begin to quietly sing in the altar the stichera of Easter: "Thy Resurrection, Christ our Savior, the angels sing in heaven ..." The singing is picked up by all those praying, and together with the priesthood the people walk around the church three times.
The doors of the temple are opened and the celebration begins.
Expressing exultation and joy, the Church performs almost all services with uninterrupted singing.
The Royal Doors open and remain open for the entire Bright Week, as a symbol of the opened paradise

Blessed eggs were eaten first at the Easter morning table.

They were also presented to everyone who came to visit that day, or when the owners themselves went to visit someone.

Giving eggs, they said: "Christ is risen." And in response they answered: "Indeed he has risen."

In the old days, it was customary for the housewives to stay at home on the first day of Easter, and the men went to congratulate their relatives and friends.

The tables had been laid all day and there were already light (not lean) dishes on them.

The Easter table was usually decorated mainly with cold dishes: baked lamb, fried veal, pork hams.

It was not accepted to serve fish that day.

The obligatory decoration of the table was Easter lamb, either sugar on a kulich, or butter on Easter (there were special lamb molds for baking and for butter).

Easter and Easter cakes were also decorated with paper flowers, and colored eggs were laid on fresh sprouted greens of oats, wheat or specially grown watercress.

On Bright Week, all relatives and good acquaintances were necessarily visited, showing special respect to the elderly.

Many of these and other traditions are a thing of the past. But there are also families where the rituals of celebrating Easter are passed down from generation to generation. And while they are there, we can hope that our children and grandchildren will also be able to paint Easter eggs.

Easter is called a holiday of holidays, a celebration of celebrations. No wonder our ancestors surrounded this holiday with special customs that still live in everyday life. Even non-believers, according to the ancient Russian tradition, paint eggs and bake cakes on this day.

In ancient times, well-to-do hosts served 48 different dishes at Easter, according to the number of days of the expired fast.

Butter cakes and cottage cheese Easter always decorated with homemade flowers, symbolizing the awakening of nature and the flowering of spirituality.

Making flowers for the holiday, like painting eggs, was extremely fun. Both adults and children cut out flowers and twigs from bright colored paper and decorated the table, house, icons and furniture with them.

Ritual Easter dishes have always been associated with the ritual symbols of the harvest. The remains of pies, eggs and other dishes consecrated in the church could not be thrown away, they were buried in the field so that the soil was fertile and gave a lot of crops this year.
One Easter egg must be kept before sowing; they took it with them when they went to sow for the first time and ate it in the field so that the harvest was rich.

Easter is a holiday of resurrection, revival and accepted put sprouted grain on the table (wheat, barley or other), since the tender greens that came out of the dry seed symbolizes dying and returning to life again.

EASTER TABLE

Having revived the ancient custom of celebrating Easter, we return to our origins, and here we should remember what place was given to the traditions of the table. After a long seven-week Great Lent preceding the holiday, each hostess tried to set the table with special solemnity. I. never during the whole year in Russia ate so much as on Holy Week.

The Easter table has always been rich: in addition to the listed dishes, various snacks from vegetables, stewed chicken offal, dishes from fish caviar and milk, herring, jellied fish, jelly and jellied meat, kalya from beef kidneys with pickled cucumbers, liver oil seal, nanny - stewed buckwheat porridge with lamb meat, roast with mushrooms, prepared for future use in the summer, beef with turnips, boiled pork in hay with beer, duck or goose in honey or fried with juniper branches. Drinks were also varied: beer, homemade liqueurs, liqueurs and wines, jelly and sbitni.

Meat was the mainstay of the meal these days. - for six weeks of abstinence, everyone managed to miss him: baked hams, ham or lamb; stuffed ducks, turkeys and geese; suckling pigs and homemade sausage; and also - cheeses, bacon and bacon, huge whole sturgeons ...

Here, for example, is the menu for the Easter dinner of the Romanov family in 1903: “Easter. Easter cakes. Eggs. Sturgeon. Beluga. Salmon. Pike perch. Stellate sturgeon. Pheasants. Partridges. Teterev. Ryabtsy. Ducks. Lamb. Ham. Languages. Beef on the bone. Veal yaroslavl. The pies are different. "

The Russian Easter table has always been not only generous, but also very beautiful.
Even in the poorest families, candles were always put on it, baskets with freshly sprouted greens of wheat or oats, Easter cakes and Easter were decorated with flowers - they were made from bright scraps of fabric and colored paper, which were specially collected throughout the year.

However, our Easter customs are not only related to food. Russian people have always loved various amusements: on late Easter in the villages they rolled eggs on the grass, and on early Easter they played "cue ball": they beat with the noses of eggs, whoever has the strongest - that is happiness.

Traditional Easter dishes: Easter cakes, Easter, women, painted eggs. Previously, eggs were painted not only on Easter, but also on Trinity they were painted green. And Easter cakes and Easter in our time, as before, are baked once a year - on Easter.

Easter gingerbread cookies differed from the usual ones in that they had the outlines of bunnies, cockerels, doves, and larks.

Many dishes were prepared for the festive table. They roasted a lamb, a ham, and fried veal. They were served only cold, since one of the main rules of the Easter table was the exclusion of hot dishes.

According to an ancient tradition, colored eggs were laid on fresh sprouted greens of oats, wheat, and sometimes on pale green tiny leaves of watercress, which were specially germinated in advance for the holiday.

Candles, icon lamps, chandeliers, lamps were lit in houses. Easter was considered a family holiday, so the closest people gathered around the festive table.

And during the whole Bright Week, friends and acquaintances came to the house, who were treated to all kinds of food.

From the memoirs of Vorontsov-Velyaminov:

“Throughout the day, relatives and friends came to congratulate the holiday. They were invited to the table and treated to Easter food. But since our house was not the only one where they came, as they said "to make visits," some of the guests were already so full that they refused. Others sat down at the table with pleasure. Relatives brought us, children, gifts, mostly chocolate eggs. And, since our parents did not take care of us that day, we abused these gifts very much "

From the book by Ivan Shmelev "The Lord's Summer"

"Great Saturday evening. The house is quiet, everyone lay down before matins. I make my way into the hall to see what is outside. There are few people, they carry Easter and Easter cakes in cardboard boxes. In the hall, the wallpaper is pink - from the sun, it sets. In the rooms - crimson lamps, Easter ones. Were blue ones on Christmas? .. We put down an Easter carpet in the living room with crimson bouquets. They took off the gray covers from the burgundy chairs. There are wreaths of roses on the images. In the hall and in the corridors there are new red "paths". the windows - painted eggs in baskets, crimson: tomorrow the father will be christening with the people. In the hall - green quarters with wine: bring it. On down pillows, in the dining room on the sofa - so as not to fall through! - are huge cakes, covered with pink muslin, - are cooling . Smells from them sweet fragrant warmth. "

“From the very morning, - we read in the notes of a great connoisseur of Russian cuisine D.V. Kanshin, - in prosperous families a table has been laid for breaking the fast, and what will the hospitable hosts instruct on it! Others put 48 meals and snacks on the table as a symbol of the 48-day fast that has just expired. An honorable place is occupied by Easter, Easter cake and eggs, and then there is a fried lamb and a lamb made from butter, ham, veal, roast beef, a mending pork head, all mending animals: poulards (chickens), turkeys, geese, ducks; further various kinds of cold and hot sausages and sausages. On other tables, you see a whole assortment of all kinds of cheeses, Little Russian bacon, smoked pork belly, smoked geese (polka), etc., etc. cucumbers. All the intervals between the dishes are lined with various kinds of vodka and wines ... "

There is a legend that on Easter, Christ with the apostles goes out in a beggarly robe to wander the earth and comes to people's homes to experience their mercy.

Therefore, on Easter in every house there should be an abundance of all kinds of food, so that any person who enters the house can be treated. That is why on Easter our hospitable ancestors put a lot of food on the table and treated everyone who came.

Needless to say, in the old days our compatriots gave vent to their stomachs.

PRAYERS BEFORE AND AFTER EATING FOOD

BEFORE TASKING
Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth.Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we also leave our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. The eyes of all trust in You, Lord, and You give them food in good timing, You open Your generous hand and fulfilling every animal favor.

AFTER TASTING
We thank Thee, Christ our God, for thou hast filled us with Thy earthly blessings; Do not deprive us of your Heavenly Kingdom, but as among your disciples you came, Savior, give them peace, come to us and save us.

SECRET PRAYER BEFORE EATING FOOD FOR THE DISEASED IN DIET
(prayer for weight loss)
I also pray to Thee, Lord, deliver me from satiety, voluptuousness and grant me in the spiritual world with reverence to receive your generous gifts, and by eating them, I will receive the strengthening of my mental and physical strength to serve Thee, Lord, in the small remainder of my life on Earth.

HOLY SONGS IN EASTER, OR IN THE BRIGHT RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
The angel called the grace-filled: pure Virgin, rejoice! And again he exclaimed: rejoice! Your Son was resurrected three days later from the grave and resurrected the dead. People, celebrate!
Shine, glorify, New Jerusalem! Let the glory of the Lord shine on you; rejoice now and be merry, Christian Church! You, Most Pure Mother of God, show off with Joy about the resurrection of the One Born by You.

TROPARI TO THE LIGHT CHRIST RESURRECTION (EASTER)

Stanza, voice 6
Thy Resurrection, Christ the Savior, the angels sing in heaven, and on earth make us praise with a pure heart.

Troparion, voice 5th
Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and giving life to those in the tombs.

Kontakion, voice 8
Even if you have descended into the grave, Immortal, but you have destroyed the power of hell, and you have risen, as the Winner, Christ God, prophetic to the myrrh-bearing wives: Rejoice! and give peace to your apostle, give resurrection to the fallen.
Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us bow to the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one, we worship Thy Cross, Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy Holy Resurrection: Thou art our God, do we not know anything else for You, we name Thy name. Come, all faithful, let us worship Christ's holy resurrection; Behold, come the Cross, joy to the whole world; Always blessing the Lord, we sing His resurrection, having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

Tuesday after Bright Week - Radunitsa, the day of commemoration of the dead.
Orthodox Christians go to cemeteries to share the joy of the Resurrection of Christ with their deceased relatives and friends.

It is on this Tuesday that you should visit the graves of relatives and friends. At the same time, it must be remembered that one cannot arrange a memorial meal at the cemetery: those who have finished their earthly journey need not food, but our sincere prayers for the repose of their souls. Putting the Easter symbol - a red egg on your own grave, singing the Easter troparion: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death with death and giving life to those in the grave”, remembering the dead with a kind word - this is the custom prescribed by the Holy Church and bequeathed to us from our ancestors ... So, do not bring vodka and snacks to the cemetery, such commemorations only torment the soul of the deceased.

Throughout Bright Week, all day before Vespers, ringing the bells.
Previously, everyone was allowed to climb the bell tower. Harmonious, powerful, triumphant ringing gives a special solemnity to the days of Easter.

These days people greet each other with the words "Christ is Risen!" and hear the joyful answer "Truly is risen".
In spiritual joy, people christen themselves, present each other with colored eggs (an egg is a symbol of life, and Christ gave people eternal life; red reminds people that the Son of God sanctified life with His blood).

Easter is celebrated forty days before the Ascension of the Lord.

"DELICIOUS" EASTER TABLE DECOR

When preparing for Easter week, consider both the holiday menu and the festive decoration of your home.

Easter is a bright holiday symbolizing rebirth, new life, and in order to emphasize the sublimity of feelings, which, of course, covers every believer, you should choose a warm color scheme for decorating the table.

Give preference to delicate spring flowers:
- pink, red (red is the color of love),
- blue (blue and blue are the colors of the sky, faith),
- yellow (yellow - as a symbol of vitality, joy, light),
- light green, green (green is the color of hope, the personification of nature and freshness),
- white neutral, which always looks solemn,
and other warm pastel shades, delicate shades of bright colors - all this variety of colors can find their rightful place on your festive table
Red is the color of love, which takes on a deeper meaning on Easter, symbolizing the boundless love of Jesus for all people whose sins He atoned for with His blood.
White, yellow, gold colors - colors of spirituality, light, purity
Yellow, along with red, is good for Easter decoration, because it symbolizes the sun, which gives life to all life on earth.

Lay a ceremonial tablecloth on the table, decorate the table with vases with primroses, sprouts of greens and grains and blossoming twigs. Make an Easter bouquet: hang painted eggs, figurines of Easter gingerbread cookies in the form of birds, animals, bunnies or paper flowers and butterflies, and others on the branches of a tree in a vase.

Such compositions for your holiday table and your home will create a festive mood:

For example, a special dish was provided for colored eggs, in which wheat or watercress was germinated two weeks in advance. Such a clearing, in the young grass of which multi-colored testicles were hiding, was a special decoration of the table.

To grow the grass, you need to put some earth on a plate, mix with it the grains of wheat, oats or watercress, add water to the consistency of a liquid gruel and put in a warm place.

Young shoots will appear in a week. "Polyanka", conveniently located in the middle of the table, can replace the traditional flowers on the festive table.

It is great if there are spring flowers in the house on a holiday, collected and stylized in accordance with the triumph of the composition.

In Russia, the most popular Easter flowers were hyacinths and daffodils (they were even called Easter lilies). They were used to decorate tables, presented in Easter baskets.

Easter flowers are also considered - ram primroses, dandelions, mother-stepmother - however, all the first, usually really yellow spring flowers were called so.

To decorate Temples, many priests still prefer hydrangea, especially white, and often place it near the shroud.

Primroses, tulips are also popular (they also resemble eggs in shape), violets, lilies of the valley, snowdrops, viburnum flowers, forsythia, prunus, ranunculus.

We must not forget about roses and carnations.
According to the religious symbolism, carnations are the flowers of Christ, therefore, it is often from 33 white carnations that the garland is assembled on the shroud: according to the number of earthly years of the Savior's life and in memory of the white sheet (shroud), which was wrapped around him, having been removed from the cross.

Roses are a very common decoration for tables, cakes, icons. Earlier, when living roses were inaccessible to many, artificial roses were made for Easter, often paper ones, dyed in raspberry red.
Potted plants, especially flowering plants - cyclamens, hyacinths, clivias, roses, violets, Kalanchoe, etc. are widely used, especially for Easter baskets and compositions.

Easter composition on the table

Preparing for the Easter holiday. Easter table
Easter bouquets - a whole series of bouquets for a gift and bouquets for decorating Easter cake. In terms of shape, color and choice of plants, the Easter bouquet for a gift is sustained in the tradition of Easter and is less focused on gender, age and preferences of the addressee.

Therefore, it is often gathered round, with flowers typical for Easter, feathers, shells, willow, figurines of hares, lambs, various birds, as well as butterflies, beetles and dragonflies.

In recent years, bouquets on a wide variety of frames have become very popular and, above all, the "nest" bouquet. It really gathers on a frame made of branches that resembles a bird's nest. A bouquet for Easter cake, usually small in size, is collected on a hairpin, most often wooden, on which it is then attached to the cake.

Easter wreath - desktop, wall-mounted, suspended. It symbolizes infinity and eternal life, given by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Collected from spring flowers and branches, with eggs, shells, ribbons, feathers and other attributes.
Used as a table decoration (often around the Easter cake), interior decoration and as an Easter gift.
Earlier, Easter wreaths, in addition, were worn to cemeteries in Radonitsa - the day of the Easter cycle among the Orthodox, when the dead are commemorated.

Easter slide - specially grown greens for Easter from cereal seeds, most often oats, or other fast-growing seeds, for example, watercress.

The seeds were thickly “smeared on a wet cloth that covered the base in the form of a hill (pyramid or cone) and often watered. The hill that had grown, as if covered with spring grass, was put on a plate, stand or basket on the Easter table and covered with colored eggs.

The Easter slide was also called the sloping "slides" specially made of boards, sometimes similar to shallow gutters. The shape of the mountain appeared in Easter traditions for a reason. Almost every nation has sacred mountains (sometimes it is the abode of the gods), which history, legends and myths associated with the most important events: Olympus, Tabor, Sinai, Fujiyama, etc. Both the Easter slide and the greens sprouting from seeds are symbols of proximity to God, Resurrection, Revival and Hope (green).

Easter basket

What must be in an Easter basket?
Archpriest Petr Landvitovich from the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Kiev answers.
- First of all - colored eggs as a symbol of Easter, necessarily meat and dairy products: ham, sausages, cheese, butter ... And, of course, Easter cakes. Wine can be sacred, but vodka is not worth it. Recently, they have come to bless them with children, because there are a lot of sweets and chocolate eggs in the baskets. But before, sweets were not put in baskets, it was not accepted. Fruits can be sacred, recently a lot of exotic things have appeared - pineapples, bananas, mangoes. And, in general, parishioners know little about this, since they rarely go to church. On this occasion, we, priests, even have an anecdote. A man in the church is indignant: “Whenever you come, they always sanctify a paska. Are there really no other holidays? " (Laughs) An anecdote of everyday life: after all, indeed, people do not go to church all year round, they only drop in at Easter. (Archpriest Peter Landvitovich from the Church of St. John the Divine.)

Easter tree - a decoration that imitates a tree - like the Tree of Life, the Tree of Knowledge, Good and Evil, standing in Paradise. It can be of any size - from small gift, table compositions to large interior objects.
The works are performed in any floristic style and from any material; they can resemble real trees or be stylized.
In some European countries ("Easter tree" - sometimes it is just a high pole with transverse slats at the top, which is decorated with wreaths, ribbons, flowers - is placed in yards, on the streets and carried during Easter processions and festivities.
In Russia until the 17th century, in the procession of the patriarch, an Easter tree, decorated with artificial flowers and fruits, was carried on a donkey on a donkey; it was called the “royal willow”.

Easter bunny - one of the obligatory attributes of Easter and Easter floristry in almost all countries of Western Europe, especially in Catholic and Evangelical.
The hare (and sometimes the rabbit), famous for its fertility, appeared in Easter bouquets, compositions, wreaths, showcases, decorations and gifts as a symbol of fertility.
His presence promises prosperity, good harvest and success in business. There is another explanation as well. Faster than others, a running hare can be the first to bring good news to people, and it was as a messenger that he appeared in Easter paraphernalia.
This version is also confirmed by the ancient legend about how the Moon, feeling sorry for the mother who had lost her son, sent a swift hare with the joyful news that her son would rise again. The hare came running very quickly, but on the way forgot what was said to him, for which he was forever left with a split lip.

Easter postcard - a greeting card, often with the words "Christ is Risen!" and Easter stories.
Own postcards in Russia began to be printed only at the end of the 19th century, therefore, early Easter postcards often depicted the attributes of Easter accepted in Western Europe, for example, hares, birds, etc.
These postcards were sent by mail, left during visits, and attached to gifts. Handmade postcards were especially appreciated.

“One could assume that Easter hares, chickens and lambs are only a product of our“ age of atheists ”But this is not so. I want to show you some European Easter cards from our home collection. "

Birds - one of the most widespread in almost all countries element of Easter decoration in the form of figurines of various birds, most often storks, as well as their nests, eggs, feathers. The bird is a messenger, a symbol of the Spirit, the rebirth of nature.
Hand willow - "Hand willow" - all kinds of branches, decorated with made flowers, fruits, berries, pods and even nuts.)
Palm Sunday: why are willow branches consecrated before Easter?
This question can be answered very simply. In the central part of Russia, the pussy willow is the only commonly available plant that came to life after winter and opened its tassels.

Palm branches, which are absent in our area, have been replaced with verbules, which are an obligatory attribute of the ancient Orthodox holiday in honor of the Lord's entry into Jerusalem. This event - the solemn entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem - begins the ascent of Christ to death and resurrection on the cross. The inhabitants of the holy city greeted Christ as the Messiah - with palm branches in their hands, hence the original name of the holiday - “Palm Sunday”.

What foods should you put in your Easter basket?

Every year, on a special day, the joyful ringing of bells spreads through all the streets, all cities and villages, the smell of fresh pastries soars in the air, and everyone around greets each other with the words "Christ is Risen". Easter is a truly national holiday, which every year makes us remember the most pleasant moments of youth and childhood - how mother or grandmother baked delicious pasta, funny picnics and gatherings in the morning at an Easter table full of various Easter dishes.

The Easter menu differs in its composition in every family. Different generations have made their own changes, which subsequently created that unique culinary flavor that reigns every time during the celebration of Easter.

Pasca

Pasca is a traditional Easter bread, which is a version of the festive church bread - artos, also symbolizes the Resurrection of Christ. Nowadays, not many city dwellers are engaged in baking pasque. With the opening of large stores, the need for homemade pasque has almost disappeared. The stores offer a wide selection of Easter baked goods for every taste. So, for example, in the Narodny store we counted more than 10 types of various Easter baked goods, but now is not yet the “hottest” Easter time. It is now clear why every year they cook their own baked goods less and less. After all, the purchased paska does not differ from the homemade one, since it is baked according to classic recipes and does not require any time and physical costs. But homemade cakes are special, so we advise everyone to try baking Easter bread on their own. Thus, you will plunge even more into the unique spiritual sensation of the bright holiday of Easter.

Krashanki

At all times, the egg symbolized the beginning of a new life, renewal, and Resurrection. The egg is of particular importance during the celebration of Easter. There are many Christian legends that explain why krashanka is one of the symbols of Easter. One of the most popular tells how Mary Magdalena came to preach to the Roman emperor Tiberius and gave him a simple chicken egg. But the emperor did not believe the disciple of Christ and said that a dead person cannot be resurrected, it is just as impossible as the fact that an ordinary egg will change color. And at the same moment the egg turned bright red, testifying to the truthfulness of the words of Mary Magdalene.

There are many ways to color boiled eggs for the holiday. Modernity and development of technologies have made the palette of Easter colors richer and brighter. The stores offer a wide selection of food colors of all colors and shades, as well as stickers with different themes. The choice is yours, but do not forget about the simplest methods - ordinary onion peel.
Meat dishes: homemade sausage, boiled pork, ham and jellied meat.

The most difficult and strict Christian fast, Great Lent, ends on Easter. For seven weeks the believers adhered to strict food restrictions, and now, with the Resurrection of Christ, their menu can again become festive and rich in meat and dairy dishes. That is why fragrant sausages, pieces of homemade boiled pork and even jellied meat jars fall into the Easter basket. You can cook these dishes with your own hands, but it is worth remembering that meat is a special product, and you need to strictly follow the recipes. Otherwise, the result may be disastrous. For those who cannot or do not want to spend time preparing homemade sausage, boiled pork or jellied meat, an assortment of meat treats in stores and markets will always become an assistant.

The Easter menu of every family is so diverse that there is not enough article or even a whole site to describe and tell all this. When choosing products for your Easter basket, remember that this day is not just delicious food, but part of the centuries-old traditions of the brightest holiday of spring.
